About us

Michael Bristow, CEO of Business Language Services gives you some background to the Fluency Today programs.

You may have already read our philosophy page in which I've outlined why we developed the Fluency Today programs which provide a smart alternative to phrase books.

Here, I'd just like to give you a few brief details on our business and experience over the past years in foreign language training.

I started the business in the UK in 1988 when it was becoming clear that this country was going to sign up to the European Single Market in1992. That all seems a long time ago now.

Since that time we've delivered foreign language training to many businesses and commercial organizations and have covered a wide range of languages - not just French and German - at all levels and in differing specialist areas.

The aim has always been to provide our clients with language tailored to the needs of their particular jobs and this naturally means we have had to deal with technical vocabulary in many different fields.

We use a network of some 20 appropriately qualified tutors who go into companies and deliver the training in-house at times convenient to the trainees. Often this means that the training starts at 07.30 or 08.00 in the morning - when people are most capable of learning and before they get involved in the daily detail of their business.

Since 1990 we have offered our trainees the opportunity to sit for the Foreign Languages in Industry and Commerce Exams provided by the London Chamber of Commerce as a measure of attainment of language skills at five different levels from Preliminary to Advanced and have achieved a 95% pass rate over the years.

During this time we have delivered training courses to a wide range of businesses including aircraft, automotive, ceramics, chemicals, construction, cosmetics, food and drinks, financial services, foundry, furnishing textiles, general engineering, hydraulics and pneumatics, industrial textiles, leather goods. mining, packaging, plastics, transport and utilities amongst others.

The Fluency Today Self Study Options were first developed five years ago for use as quick introductions to some of our courses. Since that time they have been completely rewritten and tested in various delivery modes. Two years were spent testing the programs for remote learning and delivery by ISDN video-conferencing and over the Internet using Microsoft NetMeeting software.

I don't wish to take up any more of your time here, but if you do have any questions or comments I'd be very pleased to hear from you if you write, fax or ring me as above or email me at
info@fluency.force9.co.uk.

I very much look forward to meeting you sometime soon on one of our programs.

Michael Bristow
